c.a.r.e.'s Safe Touch Program "empowers
children through body safety awareness." This program
teaches children to recognize the differences between appropriate
and non-appropriate touches and how to seek help.
|
|
The
SAFE TOUCH Program is offered to area preschools, childcare
facilities and public and private schools. The SAFE TOUCH
Program concentrates on how children and adolescents can protect
themselves from any type of abusive or unwanted touch. The
program devotes time to the problems associated with abusive
situations among family members, acquaintances, strangers
and peers and empowers children and adolescents to seek help
if threatened or victimized. During the 2001-2002 school year,
SAFE TOUCH presented to 13,841 children.
|
|
During
these presentations children and adolescents will be actively
involved in:
- Group
activities and discussions
- Role
plays
- Videos
Children
have the right to be safe! They have an equal right to grow
up without being afraid that someone might abuse them. SAFE
TOUCH supports children and adolescents in becoming competent,
confident persons who are:
- Capable
of thinking and speaking up for themselves.
-
Efficient in making decisions and judgements.
- Able
to recognize abusive situations and seek help.
Empowerment
is the key to prevention and these programs provide a vehicle
to gain the skills necessary for children to protect themselves
against specific risks.
